I’ve had many questions at some of my recent seminars concerning "Google +1" and "Circles".  Now although Google isn’t a virgin to social media, after all it did have a few failed attempts with the likes of "Buzz" and "Wave".  Google +1 is a great way for brands (or celebrities) to interact with their fan base without having to follow people they don’t know (like Twitter!).  

I don’t personally think that Google +1  is going to overtake Facebook but it’s got legs for future growth in some interesting ways.  But rather than bore you with possibilities, it’s new… so get stuck in and learn and play with Google +1.

 This March 2011 Google started to role out the Google "+1" feature.  It’s Google’s big push into social media with a button on the search engine index page which acts in a similar way to Facebooks  "Like" button.

Users who opt for the "+1" button trial will start to see "+1" next to each of the search results.  

When you "+1" a listing you are effectively giving it your stamp of approval with your name associated to the link across Google.  It will also show up on your google profile whcih you need to have in order to activate the product.

Last week 10th February 2011 Facebook began to roll out the new facebook pages layout which resembles places.

The new pages are probably an improvement on the old.   The home page navigation bar now resides on the left hand side of the page and not on the top. There’s also been some randomisation of the top line of photos which makes it more difficult to do ‘cool picture effects’.

Now you can toggle between making comments about you or as the administrator, therefore if you are the administrator of a business page you can easily navigate between the two and update, this also brings a personality to your brand.   Although the business and personal pages are starting to become difficult to identify apart.
